Name: Participatory Budgeting PROJECT EXPOS
Date: April 1, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Learn what’s proposed for this year’s Participatory Budgeting election ballot 49th Ward Alderman Moore invites you to attend one of the upcoming Participatory Budgeting PROJECT EXPOS to learn about the proposed neighborhood improvement projects for 2017 and provide your feedback. The project proposals have been put together by neighborhood volunteers (PB49 Community Reps), who’ve been working hard the last five months researching and crafting the proposals for your consideration. This is an important step in the Participatory Budgeting process, which gives the residents of the 49th Ward the power to decide directly how to spend $1 million of the Ward’s “menu money,” discretionary funds received annually by each Chicago alderman for infrastructure improvements in their wards. You need only go to one of the Expos. The dates, times and locations of the Expos are as follows: Tuesday, March 28th, 7 p.m., Sullivan High School, 6631 N. Bosworth Ave. Wednesday, March 29th, 7 p.m., St. Jerome’s Parish Center, 1709 W. Lunt Ave. ( in Spanish only). Saturday, April 1st, 10 a.m., Willye White Park, 1610 W. Howard St. You will have an opportunity at the PB49 PROJECT EXPOS to hear directly from five different neighborhood committees about the projects they’re proposing for inclusion on the ballot. Each committee will give a short presentation on its project proposals, and you will be invited to offer your feedback and suggestions afterward on each table. Some project ideas for the ballot include: - Benches in heat lamp stations on the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola CTA platforms. - Lakeside exercise stations in Loyola Park. - Installing new LED lights and ornamental piggy-back light on existing lamp posts on Clark Street, from Albion to Birchwood. - Water feature at Mary Langdon Park. The 49th Ward is the first political jurisdiction in the nation to give its residents the power to determine how to spend a portion of a governmental budget. Thousands of ward residents have voted in the first seven participatory budgeting elections. To get an idea of the types of projects that have been approved by the 49th Ward voters, take a look at last year’s election results. http://www.ward49.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/PB49-Election-Results-2016.pdf For an update on the implementation of the winning projects in last year’s PB49 election, http://www.ward49.com/participatory-budgeting/pb-2106-project-updates/.
