Paint the Fence; Spirit of Our Rogers Park

Rogers Park and neighboring residents will create an exciting community-building art project titled, "Paint the Fence; Spirit of Our Rogers Park." The mural will be located at the former site of the Heartland Cafe, an iconic restaurant known as a beacon of music, art, connectivity and political activism for local residents. Organizers devised this art project in order to reinvigorate what the neighborhood space represented to the community for over four decades. 

All residents are invited to come together in the creation and celebration of the community by painting the wooden fence located at the corner of Lunt and Glenwood. 

Artist Amy Couey will design and outline a mural connected to the theme, Spirit of Our Rogers Park. Then, participants will paint by number, working together to fill in the design. Paint and basic materials will be supplied during the event; however, residents are also welcome to bring their own paint and supplies.

The end result will be an inspiring community mural that instills pride and reflects the Spirit of Our Rogers Park! Then, once the fence is removed, a few select slats will remain on-site to be displayed while the remaining will be donated to a local non-profit organization to be auctioned off.
