Join the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society for their 33 year Rogers Park/West Ridge tradition.
Each year, their Historic House Walk features a unique neighborhood in Rogers Park or West Ridge. This year, they're exploring just two blocks of one street, Jarvis Avenue, a short walk from the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society office.
When Rogers Park was a newly-developing village, the street known as Jarvis was named Bryan Avenue and the train that ran along the current CTA tracks stopped at the Birchwood Beach Station. The new neighborhood featured spacious homes, many in the then-new style call the American Four-Square, set amidst the remains of the birch forest that once lined the Lake Michigan shore.
Join the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society for an inside look at lovely examples of homes dating from the early days of Rogers Park and see how today's homeowners have adapted them to meet the needs of life in the 21st Century while retaining the character and beauty of an earlier time.
Where: Start your self-guided tour at the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society, 7363 N. Greenview Ave. When you check-in, you will receive a Tour Guide Book detailing the history and locations of the five homes open for viewing.
When: Sunday, September 22. Check-in opens at 11:30. Homes are open from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
Cost: $30, or $25 with Member Discount. Your ticket purchase supports the year-round work of the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society.
