49th Ward Back to School Picnic this Sunday

Please join Ald. Moore for an afternoon of family fun at the 26th Annual BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC, this Sunday, August 28th, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at Loyola Park (Farwell and the Lake). Ald. Moore is proud to co-host this year’s event with his good friend, State Senator Heather Steans. They’re reminding kids and parents of the importance of returning to school and they are giving away free school supplies. And this is also a COMMUNITY PICNIC for people of all ages. The picnic will feature a host of fun activities. The world famous Jesse White Tumbling Team headlines the picnic with a stunning performance of their aerobatics. They’re also serving up free food, drinks and music and offering a host of games and prizes. They’ll have bingo for the seniors and face painting for the kids, a dance contest, a jumping jack and other carnival toys. There is a new addition to this year’s picnic: the Damen Avenue Puppeteers, offering live puppets and entertainment for children, especially ages 3- 5 years old. The Chicago City Clerk’s Office will also be at the picnic, helping parents sign their kids up for the City Clerk’s Kids ID program–a program that helps file fingerprints, photos and vital information on children that can be shared with law enforcement in the case they are to ever go missing or become lost. Twinning for Healing will be offering free children’s haircuts and two of their neighborhood high schools–Sullivan and Uno Rogers Park–will have information tables.
