When is the last time you dressed up and spent your Friday night surrounded by culture and wonderful conversation? Imagine it: It’s Friday evening and you are in a historic mansion, surrounded by guests in fabulous hats and outfits, a crafted cocktail in hand, entertained and wowed by Chicago most esteemed performers and musicians! Spend your Friday night at the Parlor at Colvin House Mansion!
The February 1st Parlor Presents: The Masks We Wear
Fierce Productions and the Colvin House are proud to continue our popular immersive event: The Parlor. Bimonthly, the first Friday of the month, guests will be amazed by opera singers, Shakespearean actors, drag queens, musicians and more. Signature cocktails, wine and heavy appetizers will be served in abundance inspired by the art of the evening. Every performance will be different, uniquely curated and based upon a theme. Guests are encouraged to dress up in the spirit of the theme! This month’s theme is: The Masks We Wear.
What kind of Masks do you wear throughout the day? Do you change your persona based on who you are with or what you are doing? This month our artists will perform pieces of theater, music, and dance that are inspired by the masks we wear. We encourage YOU, our guests, to dress in the spirit of the theme. Wear a Mask that portrays the kind of persona you would like to be at our Parlor. Perhaps you will want to come as the fiercest version of yourself, or the coyest.

What is a Parlor?
A Parlor is another word for a salon which is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace’s definition of the aims of poetry, “either to please or to educate”. Salons, commonly associated with French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th and 18th centuries, were carried on until as recently as the 1940s in urban settings. (Source: Wikipedia)
